PVD Cutting Tools COATING

PVD(physical vapor deposition) During the coating process coating materials are vaporized (ion plating), dispersed (sputtering) or the target material is stripped with ion beams in a vacuum . The reaction takes place at temperatures of about 500°C . This process is primarly used for the coating of high speed steel and in some cases for full hard metal. Very well suited for highly profiled and very sharp-edged tools such as an endmilling cutters, twist bits and screw taps etc. A PVD layer with 1 – 4 µm is thinner than a CVD layer.
